A blue moon is simply the second full moon in month. It doesn’t actually have anything to do with color at all. often called harvest moon. It’s relatively rare that a blue moon would fall on New Year’s Eve. That happens only about four times a century. That's why we are very lucky to experience it this year and what a great way to start the new year. Don't you think?

The earth casts a shadow over the blue moon in a rare partial lunar eclipse a few hours into the New Year Friday Jan. 1, 2010 as seen in Manila, Philippines. People all over the world, particularly in Asia, were treated to the rare occurrence of a Blue Moon and a partial Lunar Eclipse as they celebrate with fireworks and other merry-making activities to welcome the New Year.
